What does it mean to be biodegradable?

Hull and Aft is a biodegradable marine cleaner.  You may be asking what does it mean to be biodegradable and why is it so important?

Biodegradability is the amount of time it takes for a substance to break down into harmless components.  As Hull & Aft is 100% biodegradable, the entire substance breaks down into harmless components.  According to Picture Perfect Cleaning, a Canadian commercial cleaner, "biodegradable cleaning products become part of our ecosystem at the end of their lives. When a cleaning product is truly biodegradable, it means improved health of those using them, as well as a cleaner, more sustainable environment."

Did you know that 80% of the ocean's pollution comes from land?  The National Ocean Service states, "one of the biggest sources is called nonpoint source pollution, which occurs as a result of runoff. Nonpoint source pollution includes many small sources, like septic tanks, cars, trucks, and boats, plus larger sources, such as farms, ranches, and forest areas. Millions of motor vehicle engines drop small amounts of oil each day onto roads and parking lots. Much of this, too, makes its way to the sea."

The ocean is already fighting an "uphill battle" against pollution.  Adding harmful boat cleaning chemicals to the mix would only make matters worse.  This is why we created Hull and Aft to be 100% biodegradable!   As avid fishermen, we care about the ocean and preserving it for our children, grandchildren, and generations to come.
